One day I decided to make my self feel smarter by tampering with my websites code and in turn my confidence got knocked down a notch. One mistake I made was that I changed the homepage tag on no follow on accident. This is a valuable tool if you use it in the right way unlike yours truly. By having my homepage on “no follow” made my site virtually invisible to the search engines. I kept checking my site to see if the search engines have ranked my site anywhere and of coarse I could not find it but at the time I didn’t know why. I did this for a bout a week until I started to investigate. And then I found out where my mistake was. What is a no follow tag? Some websites place a no follow tag on their website so the search engine will by pass the non important part of their websites and focus on the important content to get more exposure on the search engines.

The search engines send out robots or another word for them is crawlers. These are like little robots that will scan all of your content on your website and look for important keywords that people search for on the internet and sends back the info of your site to the main headquarters where your site will get ranked on how much good and bad content it has. The better content and links to your site you have the better it will rank. Basically, I accidently told the search engine crawlers to pass my site which was a big mistake.

So here I am 1 week later and the robots are just passing my site up like it never even existed. After 1 week I was wondering why I was not even getting crawled. This is not a Online Internet Marketing Business site for me but imagine if it was a business site for someone? Imagine how much money they would of lost due to this mistake. This little mistake would have made a business company loose a quarter of their business for that month. Some business on average make twenty grand profit a month so that would be just like throwing away five thousand dollars for that week and you would have to still pay the bills to run that site so figure even more loss. I guess thats why I’m not a business man. I revised my site so that these search engine crawlers will visit my site again and start ranking it. I just fixed it this morning and I know this will help. Hope this will help you avoid the same mistake I made. And maybe keep your business from loosing a lot of profit.
