Article Spinning in Relation to The web… everything is connected by sticky strings of information.

One of our clients was concerned that their corporate name and article content was being tied to a low-priced domain names because their story was posted on a travel site featuring discount airline travel, while they are promoting a 4-star travel destination.

Article spinning generates “semi-original” content from source of content in order to submit it to articles directories.  This practice is a great way to advertise a brand and establish backlinks.  Unfortunately it is also a balancing act, and includes a bit of a Catch-22.  Shielding brand image is very essential – and the client should question the issues and then should to decide whether to continue article submissions.  But it may be worthwhile to review the purpose of these articles before getting into that.

Non-duplicated article spinning content is great for many different places including personal blogs, or submitted to directories either manually or by automated subscription services.Normally there isn’t anything exotic to directory categories.

They accept the article because they want content in order to display advertising.  Normally it is a swap of relevant content  for decent backlinks to the web page.

A great way to quantify the effectiveness of article posting is to signup to Google Alerts for key search terms.

Not all article directories and blogs are of the same quality, so the more distribution you get the better.  The primary purpose of these article submissions is to get the backlinks.  This is what SEO and getting organic search traffic is all about.  Links mean value and quality score for your website.  The article submissions are foundation building blocks for creating web presence for your domain.

Regarding the Catch-22:  Normally there is a concern that visitors searching topics of interest might actually come across this content rather than find your domain; however then if you do the math it shrinks into a very small chance that there will be a bad perception by a target audience.  Most of the undesirable content is found in adword ads, that many visitors are likely to ignore regardless.  The handful of questionable domain names just don’t add up to much overall.

When we create articles they are set not to display on adult, gambling, on-line pharmacy, or weight loss sites … but other than designating categories to submit we’re at the mercy of domains and rely upon them to adhere to submission directory rules.  The benefits far outweigh the possibility of any negative perceptions.  Concerns about protecting brand are valid and deserve talking about.   But these backlinks are the backbone to having surfers find the original content through organic search.
